Sparta Rotterdam managed to hold RKC Waalwijk to a 2-2 draw despite a red card for Shurandy Sambo.

Both sides have had good starts to the season and they played out an entertaining clash in Waalwijk on Sunday.

Michiel Kramer gave the hosts the lead in the tenth minute with a header after a swift attack. Ten minutes before the break, Sparta was level as Arno Verschueren netted a pass from Tobias Lauritsen.

RKC lost Kramer before the break but they rallied in the second half and had the lead on the hour. Ilias Bel Hassani fired a fierce strike into the net.

Sparta were then reduced to ten men when Sambo saw a straight red card for a harsh tackle on Roy Kuijpers. Despite playing for 30 minutes with ten men, Sparta took a point because Verschueren headed in a Vito van Crooij cross to make it 2-2.

The point means Sparta are 8th with RKC one spot behind them.
