twe vreFeyenoord started the game the brighter of the two sides with Lex Immers forcing Marten Jansen into a great stop with a header, while Elvis Manu sent a shot inches wide of the post.

The longer the first half went on ADO Den Haag began to take control, and Dion Malone was unlucky to see his header come back off the crossbar.

On 40 minutes ADO Den Haag were reduced to ten men with Mitchell Schet being shown his second yellow card of the match.

Despite having an extra man in the 2nd half Feyenoord struggled to create any clear cut chances in the 2nd half as the home side defender resolutely. Immers headed Bilal Basacikoglu’s cross over the bar, while substitute Mitchell te Vrede couldn’t convert from the edge of the area, with his shot being blocked by a teammate.

With the match seemingly heading to a 0-0 draw, Jordy Clasie’s 90th minute free kick was headed into the corner by Te Vrede to send all three points back to Rotterdam, and get Fred Rutten’s Eredivisie campaign off to a winning start.

ADO Den Haag boss Henk Fraser will be pleased with his side’s determined defending over the ninety minutes, despite conceding such a late goal. Over the next few weeks its clear that Feyenoord need to bring in a few new recruits, especially a new forward, but the club will be pleased to escape the Hague with an opening win.
