Vitesse went into the game on a twelve game unbeaten run, but without top scorer Bertrand Traore, it was ADO Den Haag who took the ascendancy from the start, and only great saves from goalkeeper Eloy Room denied both Michiel Kramer and Kevin Jansen.
Kramer thought he had given the home side the lead on 21 minutes with a header, but the referee wrongly disallowed the goal for offside. Five minutes later ADO Den Haag’s Dion Malone put the ball in his own net, only for the referee to save his blushes by judging an offside Utos Djurdjevic was interfering with play.
Vitesse had a glorious chance to take the lead on 78 minutes as a game of pinball in the ADO box saw Davy Propper, Oliinyk, and Jan-Arie van der Heijden all fail to put the ball past Martin Hansen. Seven minutes later ADO Den Haag made them pay as Kramer controlled a long ball from Hansen before beating a stumbling Room from a tight angle to give the home side all three points.
The win means ADO Den Haag are nine points above the drop zone in 12th, while Vitesse’s chances of overtaking third place Feyenoord take a hit, and they are still four points behind the Rotterdam side.
