With ADO Den Haag sitting 16th in the Eredivisie, the club felt they could no longer wait and dismissed Petrovic on Tuesday morning.

Jeffrey van As said, “During the weekend we had many talks and all parties gave their opinion about the current situation and this morning we shook hands and decided to go our separate ways. We are currently in a position where we will play the relegation play-offs and that is something that we do not want,

“We want to maintain out Eredivisie status as quickly as possible and to do that we must win games. In our last 9 games we have only won once and that must change.

“I can tell you that Zeljko Petrovic felt lonely at certain times whilst at the club. I am not in the position to talk about potential successors due to the fact that we neatly handled our business this morning and it is now down to the board to search for a new manager to keep us in the Eredivisie.”
