Zhang made a name for himself as a 18-year-old with Vitesse Arnhem before moving to West Brom last summer. He was immediately sent out on loan to Werder Bremen for two-years, but the Bundesliga side have cut that deal short.

Because the 21-year-old doesn’t have a work permit to play in England another loan deal was on the cards and ADO Den Haag have swooped.

ADO Den Haag managing director Mattijs Manders told the club’s website, “It is important for us and the Chinese shareholder that we have finally succeeded in having a Chinese player with added value for our team with his level.

“It is primarily about the football qualities of Zhang. There may also be a commercial spin-off, but that is of secondary importance to us. However, it is also important for the club and the shareholder that we have managed to find a Chinese player that meets all conditions. We are very happy about this.”

Zhang scored four goals in 24 appearances for Vitesse. He joins ADO Den Haag to provide competition for Bjorn Johnson.
