A horrible week for FC Twente has ended with defeat as the Enschede went down 2-1 at ADO Den Haag.

adotwenThe survival of FC Twente has been the big topic in Dutch football this week after KNVB director Bert van Oostveen declared his doubt that the club would be able to remain a professional side, and a place in the fourth tier possibly awaits for the 2009 Eredivisie champions.

On the pitch Twente’s form has been uplifting of late, but against ADO Den Haag they were blown away in a first half that could have seen the home side net four goals.

After a minute ADO Den Haag did take the lead when Thomas Kristensen headed in at the back post, but the midfielder was one of three players that then hit the post for the hosts before the break. Kristensen’s long rage effort cannoned off the post, while the woodwork prevented Ludcinio Marengo and Tom Beugelsdijk also.

Seven minutes into the second half the second goal did come from the spot after Bruno Uvini was punished for handball, and Timothy Derdijck slotted in the resulting penalty.

Twente then grew into the game and after Thomas Agyepong hit the post, Hakim Ziyech did pull one back with an excellent finish from a tight angle. However ADO Den Haag held on to claim the victory.

ADO Den Haag rise to 11th, while Twente drop to 13th.
