ADO Den Haag have become the third Dutch team to sign a German defender this week with the acquisition of Thomas Meissner, this follows Heiko Westermann joining Ajax and Daniel Schwaab moving to PSV. Meissner joins from MSV Duisburg on a free transfer following their relegation from the Bundesliga 2 last season.
The decision to join ADO Den Haag was not difficult for Meissner, who is now looking forward to testing himself in the Eredivisie. The defender told the official ADO Den Haag website, “I am very pleased with the opportunity that ADO Den Haag offers me. For me it is an opportunity to play in the top division of a country. I can do this in the Netherlands at a great club like ADO Den Haag I see it as a good step higher in my career.”
Meissner can’t want for the season to start against Go Ahead Eagles saying “I’m very excited to play at Kyocera Stadion. I look forward to the first league match against Go Ahead Eagles. I hope for a full stadium!”
ADO Den Haag Head Coach Zeljko Petrovic is pleased with his new addition to the squad and the tactical flexibility it allows him in defence. Petrovic said “With Thomas, we have more defensive opportunities alongside men like Tom Beugelsdijk and Wilfried Kanon.”
Before making the short trip across the border to the Netherlands, Meissner played for VfB Zittau, FSV Mainz 05 II, Borussia Dortmund II and MSV Duisburg making over three hundred appearances.
