ADO Den Haag made it three wins from three after coming from behind to beat Excelsior 2-1 in Rotterdam.

The home side got off to a flying start and after only eight minutes Jurgen Mattheij rose highest to head a corner into the net from close range. However, ADO Den Haag thought back through in form Gervane Kastaneer on 25 minutes with the winger slamming a low strike into the bottom corner to level the scores.

Both teams then had chances before the end of an open first half but it was Excelsior who came closest with Nigel Hasselbaink racing through one on one with Ernestas Setkus, who stayed big to deny the attacker’s strike.

In the second half the tempo of the match slowed and chances were less frequent. The winner came in the 68th minute with Edouard Duplan’s corner headed into the corner by Tom Beugelsdijk.

The win lifts ADO Den Haag to the top of the table for now, while Excelsior taste defeat for the first time this season.
