Sparta dominated for most of Advocaat’s first game in charge but a Mason Mount strike in the second half gave Vitesse all three points.

Advocaat said afterwards, ”We had chances to score in the first half and you saw a team tonight that wanted to win and we have to take that into our next match.

”The heads of the players dropped after the match and I have told my players that if we keep playing in the way we did tonight we will pick up points.

”This team needed confidence and I believe we played quiet well against Vitesse Arnhem.

”We want to avoid relegation and everybody at Sparta Rotterdam wants to work hard to achieve that.”

On potential transfers, Advocaat confirmed their next arrival, ”As regards to player recruitment we have an agreement in place with Brighton & Hove Albion player Soufyan Ahannach who can play as a number 10 and is an attacking midfielder.”
