Sparta Rotterdam are currently sitting second-bottom, four points above FC Twente and six points from safety with only three points remaining.

Advocaat said, ”We are all responsible for this defeat from the players to the backroom staff if you lose an Eredivisie match 7-0 in such a manner.

”We were not good enough tonight. The way in which we played in the first half is unworthy of Sparta Rotterdam and it’s the first time that has happened since I have been here.

”It was shocking tonight but we have to pick ourselves up and be ready for our match on Wednesday at home to NAC Breda. We must carry on and be ready to fight in the next match. I believe that the players will want to put things right and they will have a point to prove.

”To lose 7-0 is unworthy of Sparta Rotterdam and especially the manner. You can lose to away at Vitesse Arnhem but not in that way. It’s is unworthy for Sparta Rotterdam, for players as individuals and for me as a manager.

”We can put things right within 3 days of this defeat. I started back in January with the backroom staff and the players with the objective of staying up and I still believe that we will do it.”
