Dick Advocaat took charge of Feyenoord for the first time on Sunday and saw his side ease to a 3-0 win over 10-man VVV Venlo.

Advocaat was confirmed as Jaap Stam’s successor early last week and he immediately made a change to the starting line-up. Jan Arie van der Heijden came back into the centre of defence in place of Marcos Senesi.

After 18 minutes, Feyenoord had the lead when Nicolai Jorgensen was set up by Jens Toornstra and the Danish strike finished calmly.

In the 33rd minute, new Feyenoord captain Steven Berghuis doubled the lead with a fine strike from distance.

VVV Venlo showed nothing and in the 68th minute, Christian Kum was sent off. With the extra man, Feyenoord eventually made it 3-0 with a late Berghuis penalty after a handball in the box.

Feyenoord are now tenth in the table while VVV Venlo sits second bottom.
