The 31-year-old has had an injury hit season and has only made one appearance since Lambert became coach in January.
However, Lambert is said to be unimpressed with Afellay’s attitude and has told the former PSV captain that he is no longer welcome at the club. Afellay will still be paid but he doesn’t need to appear at training any more.
Afellay joined Stoke City from Barcelona in 2014 and has a contract until 2019. His agent will now look to have that contract dissolved so he can join another club.
