After an open start to the game Ajax took the lead on 29 minutes when Stefano Denswil powered Lasse Schone’s free kick past Nick Marsman.
The home side rode their luck, and Twente struck the woodwork twice before the break, with Youness Mokhtar striking the base of the post from a tight angle, before Luc Castaignos smashed the bar from close range when through.
Twente continued to press early in the second half, and Quincy Promes came within inches of connecting to Dusan Tadic’s ball across the box. However after a swift counter attack on 58 minutes by Ajax, Ricardo van Rhijn squared for Schone to tap into the net and make it 2-0.
The visitors looked deflated and Ajax found their third goal less than ten minutes later with Bojan rifling a shot into the top corner from just outside the box.
The 3-0 scoreline was harsh on Twente, who looked dangerous throughout the game, but they were punished for not taking their chances. Ajax are now on course to win their fourth straight Eredivisie title, while Twente slip to fifth, but have a game in hand on some of their rivals for the 2nd spot.
