Ajax started the day six points ahead of 2nd place Feyenoord, and knew a win over ADO Den Haag coupled with their title rivals failing to win at PSV, would bring them their fourth Eredivisie triumph in a row.
The home side dominated proceedings but had to wait until the 35th minute to take the lead through Christian Poulsen’s header. The lead did not last long though, and ADO Den Haag equalised a minute later with Stefano Denswil netting an own goal.
ADO Den Haag frustrated the home side until with 20 minutes left, Davy Klaassen found the bottom corner with a fierce low shot from a tight angle to give Ajax a 2-1 lead.
Thulani Serero made it 3-1 on 79 minutes as the midfielder ran onto an excellent clipped pass from Poulsen before sliding the ball under Coutinho’s legs.
Tom Beugelsdijk pulled a goal back for ADO Den Haag in injury time, but Ajax held on to close in on their 4th title in a row. With Feyenoord beating PSV in Eindhoven it means Ajax are six points ahead with two games left, and with their superior goal difference, the title is almost assured for Frank de Boer’s men.
ADO Den Haag suffer their first defeat in ten games, but they are safely in mid table, sitting 12th.
