hoesen aFrank de Boer named a strong starting line-up for the tie, which included the likes of Siem de Jong, Viktor Fischer, and Daley Blind.

After a frustrating opening period, the dominant home side took the lead on 20 minutes, when Viktor Fischer danced his way into the ASWH box before calmly slotting into the net.

However any thoughts of a whitewash from then were shattered when ASWH equalised with their first attack of the game. A long ball wasn’t dealt with by Stefano Denswil on 29 minutes, and forward Michael van Dommelen smashed the ball in from just outside the box.

It looked like both sides would go into the break level, but Danny Hoesen, and then Siem de Jong scored in quick succession to hand the Eredivisie champions a 3-1 lead. On 43 minutes a long ball from Denswil set Hoesen free, and he made no mistake when one-on-one with the keeper, before Siem de Jong hammered home from close range.

Ajax dominated the ball in the second half, but only added one extra goal, when substitute Kolbeinn Sigthorsson fired through the goalkeepers range from a tight angle on 71 minutes.

It was a comfortable win, but Ajax fans will have wanted their side to score more goals with the amount of chances they created, especially after disappointing results in the past two weeks.
