According to Voetbal International, Ajax are among a number of clubs interested in signing KAA Gent forward Jonathan David.

The 20-year-old Canadian has been in outstanding form for Gent in the Belgian Jupiler League this season, scoring 18 goals and adding eight assists in 25 games.

His form has attracted interest from around Europe with Ajax among the clubs hoping to sign the youngster. However, FC Porto, Olympique Lyon, RB Leipzig, Lazio, Arsenal and Everton are also in the running for the attacker.

David will not come cheap for Ajax with Gent director Michel Louwagie telling Het Nieuwsblad that the forward would not be leaving the club for less than €25 million.

He said, “A record bid was already on the table in January, but we declined that. Our goal is to keep this team together, even after the summer. We didn’t extend David’s contract to 2023 for nothing.

“We want to fully concentrate on the championship and the Europa League and do not want to talk about transfers now.

“It is great that we have a top scorer with David, but we want to keep him. Of course we will not let such a player go for 25 million. We have already shown great things this season, we want to continue with that.”
