Ajax and Netherlands legend Wim Suurbier has passed away at the age of 75.

Suurbier has been in hospital since April after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage which he could not recover from.

The former full-back was part of the Ajax side that dominated Europe in the early 1970s and won three European Cups. After Ajax, Suurbier played for Schalke 04, Schalke 04, FC Metz, Sparta, and various American clubs.

Suurbier was also part of the Netherlands sides that lost in both the 1974 and 78 World Cup finals. He earned 60 caps for his country.
