The Dutch giants are hoping to finalise a move for the Boca Juniors defender after the Copa Libertadores final, after a long period of interest that, with reports suggesting that Magallán passed a medical in Amsterdam in preparation for a move last summer, but ultimately the two clubs were unable to reach a deal.

Though the defender blamed Ajax technical director Marc Overmars for the transfers failure to materialise, he stills sees a future in the Dutch capital. While for Ajax, the securing of their other summer target, Daley Blind, has not alleviated fears of their strength in depth in defence. The 3-0 defeat to PSV while captain Matthijs de Ligt was out injured has persuaded the clubs hierarchy to move to reassure their backline for the tail end of the season.
