According to De Telegraaf, Edson Alvarez was looking to leave Ajax in January but the club blocked loans to LA Galaxy and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Mexican defender joined Ajax in the summer as the intended replacement for Matthijs de Ligt. However, Alvarez has struggled to impress and has spent a lot of time on the bench.

De Telegraaf is reporting that Alvarez feels no confidence from Erik ten Hag and he wanted to leave in January.

LA Galaxy and Tottenham Hotspur were both interested in loaning Alvarez, but Ajax were not interested in letting him go on a temporary basis.

With Alvarez’s family also unable to join him in Amsterdam, it seems a summer departure is now inevitable.
