According to De Telegraaf, Heiko Westermann and his representatives are currently in Amsterdam having talks with Ajax in order to secure a transfer.
The central defender, who can also play as both a left and right back, is contracted at his current employers Real Betis until 2017. However, Westermann left the Real Betis training camp yesterday after being told by coach Gus Poyet that he is free to find a new club.
The thirty-two-year-old Westermann is currently valued at around €1.5 million, but with Real Betis keen to offload the defender it is likely that he would join Ajax on a free transfer.
The German defender was previously at Greuter Furth, Arminia Bielefeld, Schalke 04 and Hamburg SV before Real Betis. Therefore, having played over five hundred games during his career, this signing would add vast experience to a young Ajax squad.
