Ajax are now only four points behind PSV Eindhoven after a 5-0 victory over NAC Breda.

After the loss to Heracles last weekend and heartbreaking defeat to Real Madrid in midweek, it was crucial that Ajax claimed victory over NAC Breda to boost their title hopes.

The hosts started brightly but after several missed opportunities including a Donny van de Beek effort off the post, the crowd and the players began to grow anxious. NAC sensed an opportunity and only an excellent save from Andre Onana denied Gervane Kastaneer from making it 1-0 to the visitors.

Just before the break, VAR, which so cruelly denied Ajax against Real Madrid, came to their aid. Hakim Ziyech’s free kick was stopped by Dorian Dervite’s elbow and a penalty was eventually awarded. Dusan Tadic kept his cool to make it 1-0 at the break.

Kasper Dolberg was introduced at half-time and the Dane flicked in Ajax’s second eight minutes into the second half. Nicolas Tagliafico then hit the post before the left back made it 3-0 with the help of Kastaneer.

Tadic then grabbed his second of the game on the rebound after Benjamin van Leer had parried Ziyech’s effort on 67 minutes. The rout was then completed when Ziyech saw a shot diverted into the net by Erik Palmer-Brown.

The victory moves Ajax to within four points of leaders PSV while NAC stay rock-bottom.
