Ajax will go into the international break top of the Eredivisie after a comfortable 3-0 win at Utrecht.

Rene Hake took charge of Utrecht after John van den Brom’s departure and he handed starts to Marten Paes, Eljero Elia and Mamoun Mahi for the visit of Ajax. Erik ten Hag brought in Zakaria Labyad and Lassina Traore from the start.

The game got off to a slow start and both sides went into the break level. Dusan Tadic went closest to scoring with a strike that hit the crossbar.

Ajax was forced into a change at the break with Antony forced off injured and David Neres came onto the field.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 62nd minute with Labyad finding Davy Klaassen, who fired a fierce strike past Paes.

Tommy St. Jago then fouled Lassina Traoré leading to a penalty which Dusan Tadic netted to make it 2-0. Quincy Promes then wrapped up the victory in injury time.

Ajax remains top heading into the international break while Utrecht are 9th.
