The Amsterdam club triggered the midfielder’s €6 million release clause last month, but Gudelj today put pen to paper on his contract in Amsterdam until 2020.
Speaking to the official Ajax website coach Frank de Boer said, “The new season starts early for us, and at the end of July, we’re already playing in the first batch of the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds. It’s important that we have the selection in order as soon as possible. We’re trying to be decisive, which we were with this transfer. Of course more new players will join, but the arrival of Nemanja Gudelj is definitely an important step.I’m very pleased that he’s here.”
The former NAC midfielder signed for AZ in 2013, with Gudelj going on to make 64 league appearances for the Alkmaar club, scoring seventeen times. Nemanja will be joined at Ajax by his father and younger brother, who have also signed deals with the club today.
