The 28-year-old, who has just recovered from a serious knee injury, joins up with Ajax as a temporary replacement for Jasper Cillessen, who’s move to Barcelona was confirmed on Thursday.
Krul’s parent club Newcastle United sanctioned the loan signing, but only after the Dutch international signed an extension to his current deal at the club, who hope to gain an instant promotion back to the Premier League after being relegated last season.
Speaking to the official Ajax website, Krul said on the deal, “I don’t think many clubs are equivalent to Newcastle. Ajax is in that category.
“Ajax is a club with many talents and I look forward to passing on the experience I have accumulated over the past decade.
“When I got the text from [director of football] Marc Overmars I was very grateful. Ajax is a great club.
“I think it’s always good to play with the national team at the Amsterdam ArenA. That I will play here soon with Ajax is just fantastic.”
