Marcel Keizer was relieved of his duties a week ago after a difficult six-month spell in charge of the club. Since then, Ajax have been in talks with Utrecht over Ten Hag and on Thursday they confirmed the 47-year-old’s appointment until the summer of 2020.

Ten Hag started his coaching career with Go Ahead Eagles before moving to Germany to take over Bayern Munich II. In 2015 he was appointed as head coach of Utrecht and has enhanced his reputation over the last two years by guiding the Cathedral club to fifth and then fourth in the last two seasons.

Ajax are yet to confirm the arrival of Alfred Schreuder, who they want as ten Hag’s assistant. The former FC Twente boss is currently with Hoffenheim.
