Ajax has confirmed the signing of Davy Klaassen from Werder Bremen for a fee of €11 million plus bonuses that could raise it to 14 million.

The 27-year-old midfielder left Ajax for Everton back in 2017 for a fee of around €27 million, but could not make his mark in England. He then joined Werder Bremen, but has now decided on a return to Amsterdam.

Klaassen gets the number six shirt and has signed a lengthy deal. Speaking to the club’s website, Klaassen said, “I am very happy to be back at Ajax, that feels like coming home to me. I’ve spent half my life here and it’s nice to be here again. I have always felt connected to the club and am looking forward to wearing the Ajax shirt again. ‘

Klaassen has previously played 180 official matches for Ajax, in which he scored 55 times.
