Ajax made it four Eredivisie games in a row without a victory as they could only manage a 1-1 draw against NEC Nijmegen.

Alfred Schreuder was without Steven Bergwijn, Steven Berghuis, and Mohammed Kudus, among others. Devyne Rensch had to start in the centre of defence, while Francisco Conceição began up front. Talents Silvano Vos, Jorrel Hato, Christian Rasmussen, Jaydon Banel, Kian Fitz-Jim, and Olivier Aertssen were all named on the bench. NEC signing Anthony Musaba was only on the bench.

Ajax went into the game knowing Feyenoord, PSV, and AZ Alkmaar all dropped points and a win would have put them one point behind the former at the top. The first big chance was for NEC but Landry Dimata fired wide.

The visitors took charge and Jasper Cillessen had to make a good save to deny Edson Alvarez, while Kenneth Taylor also wasted an opportunity. Just before half-time, Davy Klaassen did make it 1-0 after a cross from Dusan Tadic.

Seven minutes into the second half, NEC leveled as Dimata got free to net a free kick from Oussama Tannane.

Ajax suffered a blow as Brian Brobbey had to go off with a shoulder injury and Lorenzo Lucca came on, along with Kian Fitz-Jim for his debut. Ajax failed to trouble the hosts through and NEC took a point with Cillessen denying Alvarez late on.

Ajax remains second and three points off the top while NEC is ninth.
