Ajax strolled to a simple 4-0 victory over Feyenoord in a one-sided De Klassieker on Sunday.

Feyenoord headed to Amsterdam in poor form and sitting in 11th spot in the Eredivisie. Jaap Stam decided to line-up offensively with Steven Berghuis, Nicolai Jorgensen, Luis Sinisterra and Luciano Narsingh all starting.

That proved to be an error from the coach as Ajax controlled the game from the start and found themselves 2-0 up within seven minutes.

Firstly, Hakim Ziyech was played in on goal by Dusan Tadic and despite Kenneth Vermeer getting a hand on the midfielder’s effort, the ball rolled over the line. Then, five minutes later, Nicolas Tagliafico stabbed in a second from close range.

Ajax continued to find plenty of space in the Feyenoord half and Quincy Promes and Tadic went close to making it 3-0. At the other end, Jens Toornstra had a goal rightly rejected for offside.

In the 37th minute, David Neres was played in on goal after a one-two with Tadic and he slotted in a third for the hosts. Before the break, Sergino Dest’s shot was turned into the net by the head of Donny van de Beek as Ajax headed into half-time 4-0 up.

At the break, Stam changed the injured Steven Berghuis for Renato Tapia which added more stability to the visitors in the second half.

Ajax continued to create chances but a fifth goal never came, despite opportunities for Promes and Tadic. At the other end, Andre Onana remained a spectator and had very little to do.

The comfortable second half allowed Erik Ten Hag to give time to youngsters Ryan Gravenberch and Lassina Traore before the end.

The comfortable victory moves Ajax six points clear at the top of the table, while Feyenoord drops one spot to 12th on goal difference.
