Aron Winter was able to call on first teamers Justin Kluivert and Mattias de Ligt for the match, along with Kaj Sierhuis who is now a regular at U21 level,
After only 11 minutes, two of those young stars combined to net the opening goal. De Ligt’s excellent long ball was seized on by Lopez and the winger crossed for Sierhuis to net from close range.
Just after the break, Kluivert struck the post from a free-kick but the winger was heavily involved in the second goal as his cross was headed in by Dani de Wit. Just before the end, Sierhuis netted his second to seal a simple victory.
Ajax move on to the final eight and will play either Monaco or Real Madrid.
PSV 1-1 Benfica (4-5 on penalties)
PSV made a good start against Benfica as Joel Piroe fired them ahead just before half time, controlling the ball with his chest before firing past the goalkeeper.
However, a minute after the break Joao Felix equalised for Benfica and PSV could not find a winner before the end, meaning the match went to penalties. Benfica were first to miss and Joel Piroe had the chance to win the match, but the young striker saw his penalty saved. The Portuguese side then scored before Joey Konings missed to send Benfica through.
