Mitchell van der Gaag has extended his contract as head coach of Jong Ajax until 2023.

The former Marítimo Funchal, Belenenses, Ermis Aradippou, FC Eindhoven, Excelsior and NAC Breda head coach was appointed head coach of Jong Ajax in 2019.

Van der Gaag guided Jong Ajax to fourth this season, and the club’s hierarchy are pleased with the job the 48-year-old has done. Van der Gaag had a deal until 2021 but that has now been extended to 2023.

Ajax director Marc Overmars told the club’s website, “A head coach of Jong Ajax must have an eye for the further development and promotion of youth players towards our first team. In addition, Jong Ajax wants to perform well in the Eerste Divisie. Mitchell showed last season that he can deal with all those things very well. He has earned this new contract, we are very satisfied with him.”
