john abFrank de Boer’s side are keen to strengthen their wide positions this January, and according to Algameen Dagblad Ola John is close to joining on a temporary basis.

The Newspaper states that Ajax have finally come to an agreement with Benfica over the rental of the 21-year-old Dutchman, and the move could be completed within the next few days.

John could then fly out to meet the rest of the squad in Turkey as they compete in a winter break competition against Galatasaray, and Celtic.

Since joining Benfica from FC Twente for €9 million in 2012, John has struggled to hold down a place in the Benfica starting eleven, and has so far only featured seven times this season.

A move back to the Eredivisie will give John the chance to impress Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal, and possibly make a late bid for a spot at next summer’s World Cup.
