Ajax’s Champions league hopes were ended after a 1-0 loss to Atalanta Bergamo. Michael Bell provides player ratings for Ajax.

Andre Onana 6/10: Had very little to do in the game but made a good save from De Roon. Could do nothing to stop the Atalanta winner late on.

Noussair Mazraoui 6/10: Looked nervous early on but grew into the game and was an outlet in the attack. Wasted a few half-chances by snatching at shots.

Nicolas Tagliafico 5.5/10: Got a yellow card for a clash with Hateboer, but didn’t look troubled defensively. Offered nothing going forward and was subbed on the hour mark.

Perr Schuurs 6/10: Did well up against Zapata during the game and looked untroubled defensively. Didn’t do enough with the ball at his feet with Ajax’s looking for a spark from somewhere.

Lisandro Martinez 6/10: Came in for Blind and couldn’t match his ability on the ball which was a big miss for Ajax. However, made three tackles, five interceptions and three clearances. Defensively solid.

Ryan Gravenberch 5.5/10: His early yellow card proved crucial as he was sent off late on in a ridiculous decision. Broke up play well in the midfield, but couldn’t create anything for the attack.

Davy Klaassen 5/10: Got Ajax’s biggest chance of the game but could not finish when given the freedom of the box. Proved an expensive miss.

Zakaria Labyad 3/10: Not a player for this level clearly and looked completely out of his depth. Offered absolutely nothing and it was not a surprise to see him hauled off early in the second half.

Antony 5.5/10: At times he was Ajax’s most dangerous player but Atalanta had no real trouble from the winger in the second half. Much more expected from the Brazilian.

Dusan Tadic 5/10: Usually Ajax’s most important player in the Champions League, but Tadic was invisible. Didn’t create a single chance or have a single shot on goal.

Brian Brobbey 7/10: The 18-year-old got a big chance and he was Ajax’s best player in the first half before an unfortunate injury resulted in him being substituted.

Substitutes

Quincy Promes 3/10: Came on for Brobbey at the start of the second half and put in a very poor performance. Created nothing and lost the ball time and time again.

Jurgen Ekkelenkamp 6/10: Helped create the big chance for Klaassen and also set up Huntelaar for a good opportunity too. A decent cameo.

Klaas Jan Huntelaar 6/10: Came on and tried to get himself in some good positions, but his teammates failed to find him time and time again. Should he have got a penalty for a barge in the back too?

Jurrien Timber N/A: Came on in the 90th minute.
