Andre Onana 5/10: Ajax lost because of his error. Such a poor mistake at this level that was punished. It was rare for Onana and he did make some crucial saves, but can’t look past leaving that cross.
Noussair Mazraoui 8/10: A great display from the right-back, who was a threat going forward but also made a couple of crucial tackles at the back. Always a big game player.
Nicolas Tagliafico 6.5/10: A decent but unremarkable performance from the left-back, who did his defensive duties well but did not contribute going forward.
Perr Schuurs 8/10: Liverpool want to sign the centre-back if you believe the rumours and he will have impressed Jurgen Klopp with his strong defensive display. A couple of errors in his game but it was a good evening for the centre-back up against a strong attack.
Daley Blind 6/10: Looked a bit slow at times up against the Liverpool attack and Schuurs had to cover for his teammate. Did make more clearances than any of his teammates though.
Davy Klaassen 6/10: Improved after an early sloppy pass and looked accomplished on the ball. However, he should have scored at least once. His free header wide in the second half was poor.
Edson Alvarez 5.5/10: Was brought into the starting eleven instead of Labyad but was barely involved. Made one good tackle before half-time but was otherwise invisible before being substituted.
Ryan Gravenberch 8.5/10: Effortlessly brilliant in the midfield for Ajax again and it must be repeated that he is only 18. A superstar in the making that impressed with his technique, vision and ability to keep the ball in tight spaces.
Antony 5/10: I expected big things from Antony before the game but he could not get into the game at all. He wasted two shooting chances which he put wide. Was bossed by Andy Robertson.
David Neres 5/10:Put in a lot of effort but could not leave his mark on the game. When he did get a chance in the second half he hit the post with the goal gaping. Had to come off injured.
Dusan Tadic 5/10: Like the rest of the Ajax attack, Tadic struggled to get involved. Liverpool’s defence was a talking point before the game but Fabinho had Tadic figured out from start to finish.
Substitutes:
Zakaria Labyad 5/10: Came on for Alvarez but you would barely have noticed he was on the pitch.
Lassina Traore N/A: Not on long enough for a review
Klaas Jan Huntelaar N/A: Not on long enough for a review but should have scored
Lisandro Martinez N/A: Not on long enough for a review
