Ajax started their Champions League group campaign with an excellent 3-0 win over Lille. Michael Bell rates the Ajax player’s for their performances.

Andre Onana 8/10: The goalkeeper prevented Lille from getting on the scoresheet with several key saves. Got a silly yellow card for rushing out of his goal to confront Sanches but a commanding performance from the goalkeeper.

Sergino Dest 7.5/10: Caused danger with his constant runs forward. Very encouraging performance from the 18-year-old who enhances his reputation again.

Nicolas Tagliafico 8.5/10: Excellent performance from the left-back capped with a good goal. Showed fight constantly and made several important tackles.

Daley Blind 7/10: Solid and steady performance from Blind. Didn’t put a foot wrong all game but did nothing special.

Joel Veltman 8/10: Moved into the centre again and had a very good game. Dealt with the big and strong Lille forward Victor Osimhen in the air perfectly.

Edson Alvarez 7.5/10: Excellent finish to make it 2-0 from a tight angle. Had control of the game in the middle but needs to add more creativity going forward.

Lisandro Martinez 8.5/10: Commanding presence again in midfield and played an excellent pass forward for the third goal. Superb all round game from the Argentinian who is quickly becoming a fan favourite.

Quincy Promes 7.5/10: Got the all important opening goal and showed some nice touches throughout the game. However, looked a bit uncomfortable at number ten and will be replaced in the position as soon as van de Beek returns.

David Neres 7/10: Got the assist for the second goal and showed some nice tricks at the start of the second half. Still not at his best, though.

Hakim Ziyech 8.5/10: Caused so much danger for Lille and unlucky not to score with an excellent strike that crashed off the bar. Also provided the assist for the third goal. Again was the main source of creativity for Ajax. Was subbed for Noa Lang and given a great ovation. Ziyech is made for this competition.

Dusan Tadic 7/10: A quiet but effective game from the Serbian, who did a lot of running but did not come close to a goal.

Noa Lang 5/10: Not on the pitch long enough to make a big impact.

Klaas Jan Huntelaar 5/10: Not on the pitch long enough to make a big impact.

Jurgen Ekkelenkamp 5/10: Not on the pitch long enough to make a big impact.
