Ajax have returned to the top of the Eredivisie after a comfortable 5-0 victory at RKC Waalwijk.

Before the international break, Ajax dropped points with two draws against Heracles Almelo and Go Ahead Eagles. That had allowed PSV Eindhoven to catch up and they went top on Saturday after defeating Vitesse Arnhem.

Ajax went close early on and they eventually had the lead after 17 minutes with Sebastien Haller heading in a Dusan Tadic cross.

RKC almost equalised with Remko Pasveer having to make an excellent save to deny Michiel Kramer. Steven Berghuis then made it 2-0 just before the break after a nice move by the visitors.

Antony had a goal ruled out in the 53rd minute before Berghuis got his second shortly afterward. Mohamed Daramy then set up Jurrien Timber to make it 4-0 before Haller rounded off the comfortable victory in the 83rd minute.

There could have been even more goals for Ajax with Haller missing a great chance to seal his hattrick before David Neres hit the crossbar.

Ajax takes back top spot from PSV Eindhoven and they now face Besiktas in the Champions League in midweek. RKC are in 15th.
