The Norwegian winger comes highly rated from the Frisians, having been eyed up as a potential successor to Sam Larsson, with the technical director of Heerenveen, Gerry Hamstra lamenting that “a talent like Dennis leaves before making a debut”. He went on to say that the club “did everything to keep him…[but] we wish him the best at Ajax”.

After making a move to the Eredivisie from Rosenborg in his native Norway Johnsen was a fixture on the bench as Heerenveen finished 9th, but was never selected by coach Jurgen Streppel for a competitive fixture.
