The gifted play-maker had been on Ajax’s radar since 2013 and had also been monitored by some of Europe’s top clubs including Barcelona, Chelsea, and Juventus.

Antonucci, who has represented Belgium at Under 16 level but is also eligible to play for Italy, has decided Ajax is the best place to continue his development. “I am very happy to be able to play here” he said, “Ajax is a good club with a good history. The individual attention you get here from professional coaches gives you confidence. I hope to be able to debut in Ajax’s first team soon and win great prizes with this club.”

The former Dutch international Wim Jonk, who now works with the Ajax youth teams was equally as positive the deal has been finalised. “Francesco is a creative midfielder who passes very easily and thus can create chances. He prefers Ajax over the renowned training of Anderlecht and that is a nice compliment to our club”.
