Ajax are now only one point behind PSV after coming from behind to defeat ADO Den Haag 5-1.

With PSV hosting Feyenoord later on Sunday, Ajax wanted to put pressure on the leaders with a victory. The opening half-hour in the Hague was forgettable but then the match exploded into life.

In the 35th minute, Frenkie de Jong was played in on goal before going down under the challenge of Robert Zwinkels. However, the referee played on and VAR didn’t intervene. ADO went down the other end and Nasser El Khayati fired them in front.

Two minutes later, Daley Blind strode forward before playing in Donny van de Beek, who composed himself before slotting in an equaliser. Then in just before the break, Kasper Dolberg nipped ahead of Aaron Meijer’s before going down. This time a penalty was eventually awarded and Dusan Tadic slotted in the spot-kick to make it 2-1.

Ajax remained comfortably in control but had to wait until the 74th minute to make it 3-1. De Jong strolled forward before setting up Hakim Ziyech to lash the ball into the bottom corner.

Four minutes later, Dolberg tapped in from close range to make it 4-1 before Ziyech got his second with a deflected strike from inside the box.

Lasse Schone was then brought off the bench to equal Soren Lerby’s record number of 269 appearances for Ajax. The Danish duo hold the most appearances for a foreign player in Amsterdam.

The victory means Ajax are one point off PSV while ADO Den Haag are 10th.
