Erik ten Hag’s reign as Ajax boss began with a 2-0 win over Feyenoord in De Klassieker.

Ten Hag handed a debut to new signing Nicolas Tagliafico at left-back while Justin Kluivert remained on the left wing in place of Amin Younes. For Feyenoord, Jean-Paul Boetius started in place of Sam Larsson.

The first half saw Ajax have a lot of the ball but fail to create any clear-cut chances. The best opportunity of the half fell to Steven Berghuis, but the Feyenoord winger’s diving header was well saved by Andre Onana.

Five minutes into the second half, Ajax took the lead when Tagliafico’s cross fell into the path of Donny van de Beek, who took a touch before firing into the bottom corner.

Minutes after the first goal, Joel Veltman crossed perfectly for Klass-Jan Huntelaar to nod Ajax 2-0 in front. Feyenoord’s horror start to the second half was complete when Nicolai Jorgensen was shown his second yellow card before the hour mark.

The red card took the fight out of Feyenoord and Ajax came close to adding a third before the end but Matthijs de Ligt’s shot went just past the post.

With the win, Ajax stay five points behind PSV in second while Feyenoord remain fifth.
