The midfielder seems to be a top priority for Barcelona this summer and on Sunday they made contact with Ajax director Marc Overmars and De Jong’s agent Ali Dursun.

However, Ajax is not ready to listen to offers for De Jong and has told the Catalan’s he is not for sale. Barcelona has not accepted this yet and wants to negotiate a deal as they look to stave off interest from Manchester City and PSG.

Barcelona has €40 million ready for the 21-year-old and are willing to loan him back to Ajax for another season. However, Ajax has other priorities at the moment, with Justin Kluivert set to sign for AS Roma, while the club are still working on the arrival of Dusan Tadic and Lisandro Magallan.

It is also believed that De Jong wants to stay with Ajax for another season after missing the end of the campaign through injury and the fact he has not yet been playing in his desired position. De Jong wants to show the Ajax fans what he can do in midfield and lift the Eredivisie title before departing.
