Ajax have decided to reward Sven Botman for his performances on loan at Heerenveen with a new contract.

The 20-year-old has proved his worth in the Eredivisie with some impressive performances for Heerenveen so far this season, and was linked with a move to Norwich City in January.

However, Ajax have moved to ensure Botman that he has a future in Amsterdam by extending his contract until 2023. His previous deal only ran to 2022.

Botman is quoted by De Telegraaf saying, “I wanted to see if Ajax had a plan with me and it turned out to be there. I will return this summer, after which I will have a fair chance to prove myself in pre-season and during the season as a full member of the first team selection.”

Botman has made 23 Eredivisie appearances this season, scoring twice and adding four assists. He is yet to make his debut in the Ajax first-team.
