Rapid Vienna finished second in the Austrian Bundesliga last season behind Red Bull Salzburg, who knocked Ajax out of the Europa League two seasons ago.
On the Ajax club website, Frank de Boer admitted the draw could have been tougher for the Eredivisie runners up.
The coach said, “It could definitely have been worse”
“I’ve just been watching anxiously. We were in the final stages of the draw. It would have been Fenerbahçe or Rapid Vienna. We can not complain. ”
“We have to wait and see what level they are. I have not viewed any images yet, but on paper we are favorites. ”
The first leg will be played in Austria on either the 28th or 29th of July, with the return in Amsterdam a week later. Ajax need to beat Rapid Vienna to reach the play-off stage.
