Ajax will once again attempt to bring Ola John back to the Eredivisie in January with the winger out of favour at Benfica.

john bIn the summer, Ajax made a late loan move for John, but after a number of injuries at the club, Benfica were unwilling to let the player leave.

However since then, the 21 year old has only featured six times for the Portuguese giants, and according to O Jogo, a departure in January is likely.

The former FC Twente star needs first team action in order to bring himself into contention for next summers World Cup, and a move to Ajax would bring him the minutes he requires to impress Louis van Gaal.

Ajax have struggled in the wing positions so far this season, with Viktor Fischer out of form, Bojan injured, and Tobias Sana not favoured. A move for John could help Frank de Boer’s side in their quest for a fourth straight Eredivisie title, and bring in much needed service for striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson.

Whether any move would be temporary or permanent remains to be seen, with Ajax still having the money gained from the sale of Christian Eriksen to spend.
