With Ryan Gravenberch out injured, Mohammed Kudus came into the midfield for his first Ajax start.
After only ten minutes, Dusan Tadic opened the scoring for the hosts with an acrobatic finish from close range. Zakaria Labyad then had the ball in the net but the goal was ruled out via VAR.
In the 35th minute, it was 2-0 with Labyad stooping to divert Noussair Mazraoui’s cross into the net.
Ajax were denied a penalty for a handball before RKC came close to pulling one back before the break. Anas Tahiri was denied by Andre Onana.
Early in the second half, Quincy Promes had the ball in the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Labyad then had a great chance on the hour mark but shot straight at the RKC goalkeeper.
In the 67th minute, Labyad seemed through on goal but was brought down by Luuk Wouters, who after intervention from VAR was shown a red card by Bas Nijhuis.
Lisandro Martinez then made it 3-0 for the hosts with a header, which proved to be the final goal despite plenty more chances for Ajax before the end.
Another victory for Ajax, who go second, while RKC Waalwijk are still looking for their first point.
