Ajax eased to a 4-1 victory at Sparta Rotterdam and are now sitting top of the Eredivisie.

After sealing their Champions League spot against APOEL Nicosia in midweek, Erik ten Hag decided to make changes for the trip to Rotterdam. Quincy Promes came into the attack in place of Klaas Jan Huntelaar.

Ajax started slowly but in the 25th minute their first big chance led to the opening goal. A lovely ball over the top by Lisandro Martinez was raced onto by Quincy Promes, who calmly slotted in his first goal for Ajax.

Six minutes later, Dusan Tadic found Hakim Ziyech for an easy tap in as Ajax began to cruise in Het Kasteel. It could have been worse for the hosts before the break, but Promes and David Neres missed chances to extend Ajax’s lead.

In the 58th minute, a handball by Dirk Abels led to Ajax getting a penalty which Dusan Tadic calmly scored to make it 3-0. Two minutes later, Tadic once again set up Ziyech to volley in Ajax’s fourth.

Halil Dervisolgu pulled a consolation back for the hosts before the end but Ajax comfortably saw out the rest of the match to go top of the table. Sparta Rotterdam are now in 5th.
