ajau19psgWim Jonk’s side have been a revelation in the tournament so far this season, and went into the match top of the group also containing APOEL and Barcelona.

In the reverse fixture in Amsterdam Ajax blew PSG away 6-1, and they once again started brightly against the French side with Vaclav Cerny slotting in from close range after good work from Zakaria El Azzouzi in the box on 25 minutes. Eight minutes later it was 2-0 with El Azzouzi firing into an empty net from Mauro Savastano’s cross.

Four minutes into the second half PSG pulled a goal back through Miete, but El Azzouzi then restored Ajax’s two goal lead on 51 minutes with a low shot which beat the French side’s goalkeeper at his near post. Abdelhak Nouri burst through the defence to make it 4-1 on 54 minutes before PSG made it 4-2 through Augustin.

The goals kept coming and El Azzouzi completed his hat-trick on 63 minutes before Goncalves netted another consolation goal for PSG. The best goal of the night came in the 89th minute and it was El Azzouzi again who burst through the PSG defence before calmly stroking the ball into the top corner.

Ajax host APOEL Nicosia in two weeks time in a game that should see the Amsterdam side confirm top spot in the group and a favourable draw for the knockout rounds.
