Ajax are not planning to sign a replacement this month for Daley Blind, who will be out for an unknown time.

Blind is suffering from a heart issue and his recovery time is uncertain at the moment.

Jan Vertonghen was linked with a return to Amsterdam this month but Edwin van der Sar has confirmed that no new defender will be signed.

He told Algemeen Dagblad, “Daley has done a few tests, but it is not yet clear how long he will be out of. He has also been given a few days off this week. When he returns, we will continue his recovery.

“We have enough good options in the back. Against Eupen we played with Edson Álvarez and Perr Schuurs. We have Joël Veltman and Lisandro Martínez. But of course Daley is a very important player, that is clear. Hopefully he will be able to play fully in his usual place again soon.”

Erik ten Hag is also not expecting a new signing unless there is a surprise, “If there was a chance with the Babel criteria, we would do it. But I don’t like winter transfers. You almost never get a player you want and the season is only four months. So by the time a new player has been adjusted, the season is over. “
