Heitinga has a contract with German club Hertha Berlin until 2016, but is expected to leave this summer with a number of clubs from Europe and the middle east reportedly interested in the 87-time Dutch international.
Ajax are one of the clubs who are interested in signing the centre back, and after initial talks, director Marc Overmars has confirmed that another meeting will take place at the end of the week.
Overmars is quoted by De Telegraaf saying, “At the end of the week there is a meeting planned,”
Heitinga spent 18 years with Ajax, making over 150 league appearances and winning two Eredivisie titles before leaving for Atletico Madrid in 2008. The 31-year-old has also enjoyed spells with Everton and Fulham before joining Hertha Berlin last summer.
