Nathan Ake has stated he is ready to push for a starring role with the Netherlands national team and at Manchester City.

Ake has been part of the Dutch national team for years, but has always been behind Matthijs de Ligt and Virgil van Dijk in the pecking order of centre-backs.

Speaking to Algemeen Dagblad, Ake said, “We all top players, the competition is enormous. That is good for Oranje, but I do want to push at City and at Oranje,”

“I’ve always been someone for taking on challenges. When I went from ADO to Feyenoord as a youth player. Then when I went from Feyenoord to Chelsea. After that I had to make important decisions. If you stay at the club, you go somewhere on loan. I took the step to the top via Watford and Bournemouth. Manchester City is a great step. “

Due to De Ligt and Daley Blind both missing the upcoming Nations League ties with Poland and Italy, Ake could start in the centre of defence or the left, “I can play, the national coach decides.”
