Nathan Ake is urging the Netherlands not to underestimate Senegal despite the loss of star-man Sadio Mane.

On Monday afternoon, Netherlands start their World Cup campaign with a clash against African Cup of Nations winners Senegal.

Nathan Ake told Algemeen Dagblad that Oranje should be wary of Senegal, “It’s going to be very tough. Senegal has good players and very strong strikers, even without Mane.

“Missing the World Cup due to an injury is very annoying, not only for him. Everyone wants to see the top players at work here. The fact that Mane is not there is therefore a loss for this World Cup. But we still have to prepare for a very tough job, because Senegal remains very strong. We analyze them well. I hope I can play on Monday.”

Ake named his favourites to win the trophy, “Argentina is one of the favourites as far as I’m concerned. With Brazil, Germany and France. But we will also try.”
